Kids will be able to defend themselves against grizzly bears.
By: Siri YessMadison, WI – In Betsy DeVos’ confirmation hearing for Secretary of Education, she outlined one of her top priorities for school children. “When kids feel safe, they learn better,” she says. Elizabeth Warren then asked “What will you do to make sure kids feel safe at school?” DeVos responded by saying, “Kids are afraid of grizzly bears, which is a huge distraction. We need to arm every child with an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle, to protect them from the grizzlies.” Then she flashed a quick smile. Warren’s responded by saying, “They’ll shoot their eyes out.”
DeVos also has plans to add more Berenstein Bears books to the curriculum. “They teach children good life lessons, while also teaching kids how to recognize a grizzly bear when they see one.” When Warren pressed DeVos on the absurdity of that statement, she responded, “Well, we will explain to the children that in real life, the bears they might encounter may not be talking or wearing clothes.”
