Los Angeles, CA – Trump’s recently appointed Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tom Price, has agreed with Trump that the Body Mass Index (BMI) healthy range for women should be lowered. The Body Mass Index is a simple calculation of health based on a person’s height and weight. The basic calculation, using the English formula, is weight in pounds, divided by height in inches squared, multiplied by 703. So for example, a person weighing 120 pounds and 5 foot, 6 inches (66 inches), has a BMI of (120 / (66*66)) * 703 = 19.4, which is in the healthy range according to current standards. The current BMI range categories are as follows:

Less than 18.5 – Underweight
18.5 – 24.9 – Healthy
25 – 29.9 – Overweight
30.0 and more – Obese

Trump and Price agree that you can’t use the same scale for men and women and that a more healthy range for women should be between 14.5 – 18.5. Melania Trump has a BMI of 16.8, which according to Donald Trump is the “model of health for women.” He followed up by saying “Women should be encouraged to put in a few extra minutes on the treadmill each day, and lowering the BMI healthy scale for women is one way to do this.” When questioned about his own BMI, which is in the upper end of the overweight category, he responded “It’s all in my hands, and my… wherever. I guarantee you there’s no problem. I guarantee you.”
